HORROR HEADLINES (16th-23rd March)

Not got time to trawl the web for all the top horror news of the last week? Well allow me to give you a bite-size breakdown of the all biggest nightmarish news!

1. NEW POSTER AND TRAILER FOR INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3

The latest film in the Insidious franchise, a prequel to the previous two, has released a startling new trailer and poster. I liked the first two (especially Lin Shaye who is set for a larger role in this outing) so I'm intrigued to see what they do with this.

2. DOMINIC COOPER AND RUTH NEGGA FOR AMC'S PREACHER

I love Garth Ennis' Preacher comics. It is quite possibly my favourite comicbook series of all-time. So I think it goes without saying that I have a hefty vested interest in how Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin's upcoming pilot for the series. Now it seems as if the central roles of Jesse and Tulip may be close to being cast. The Tracking Board claims Marvel's Howard Stark, Dominic Cooper is close to signing on while Agents of SHIELD's Ruth Negga has been confirmed as joining the production. The Rake's Ian Colletti has also signed up for the role of fan-favourite Arseface.

3. LANGE CONFIRMS AMERICAN HORROR STORY EXIT

Sad news for fans of Fox's AHS — series stalwart Jessica Lange will not be back in the next season. Speaking at the recent Paleyfest, Lange said: 'I'm done.'
This is a real blow to the series, so I'll be interested to see what Ryan Murphy does to plug the gap left by her departure. Maybe larger roles for fellow acting heavyweights Kathy Bates and Angela Basset?
Watch the Paleyfest panel over at Dreadcentral here.

4. LEGENDARY ANNOUNCES KRAMPUS AND TRICK 'R TREAT GRAPHIC NOVELS

Legendary Comics (the subsidiary of Legendary Pictures) has announced that Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat and his upcoming Krampus will both get the funny book treatment!
Dougherty says: "I've been having way too much fun working with Legendary and the rest of my team bringing the ancient legend of Krampus to the big screen, and I look forward to expanding the film's dark Christmas mythology onto the comic page. And hopefully the fans who've been patiently waiting for TRICK 'R TREAT 2 will enjoy this deeper peek into Sam's world until he finally rises from the pumpkin patch once more. Happy Holidays."

5. HELP MAKE RAW MEAT AND THE CAMPGROUND

More genre crowd-funding, folks. First up we have Raw Meat, the story of a deranged skinless killer from the minds of House fave Bill Oberst Jr. and Tonjia Atomic. Should funding be successful, Oberst himself will star in the flick! You can contribute here.

From the team behind the successful recent slasher thriller The Woods Within (which you will see reviewed here VERY soon) The Campground is a requel (read a combined remake and sequel). Based on/following on from Roman Jossart's and Brandon Prewitt's award winning student film, these very talented and very cool people could use your help.

6. NEW RELEASES

We've two big home releases this week in the UK. First up, the highly anticipated Atticus Institute. A mockumentary about a creepy 70s parapsychology experiment, this film has been getting some great reviews, so check it out. You can buy it Amazon here
Also horror anthology fans can pick up a copy of ABCs of Death 2. With the list of segment directors reading like a Who's Who of modern horror, this looks like one to watch!
Buy it Amazon here.

  1. Steven, thank you for mentioning the RAW MEAT crowd-fund project! Tonjia Atomic's concept of a skinless killer who hates couples in love fills me with delight (oddly) and I really hope she gets the support the project deserves. I am eager to lose my skin and go on a bloody rampage....and only on your site could I write those words without fear of the authorities coming to question me :D

    very best regards,
    Bill
