THE WEEK’S HORROR HEADLINES (9th – 16th March)

Not got time to trawl the web for all the top horror news of the last week? Well allow me to give you a bite-size breakdown of the all biggest nightmarish news!

1. LEATHERFACE, THE TCM PREQUEL, CAST TAKES SHAPE

Reports say EastEnders star Sam Strike is in negotiations to play Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel. James Bloor is in negotiations to join him and this is where things get interesting.
The film is said to feature three psychotic teens and has a element of mystery as to which will grow up to don Leatherface's iconic chainsaw and mask.
And finally, the awesome Angela Bettis is in talks to play Verna, the matriarch of the bloodthirsty Sawyer clan.
Read the reports here, here and here.

2. RINGS WILL BE A PREQUEL

The upcoming Rings movie by F. Javier Gutierrez will be set prior the 2002 Ring remake that first introduced us all to Samara. So kind of a Ring 0 for the US series, which isn't the worst thing in the world.
Read Bloody Disgusting's exclusive story here.

3. MORE STARS ANNOUNCED FOR ROB ZOMBIE’S 31

Rob Zombie’s intriguing ‘killer clowns in a Running Man-style murder game at Halloween’ movie, 31 has added some more names to it’s already sterling cast. Judy Geeson, David Ury and the one and only Malcolm McDowell will be joining Torsten Voges and Elizabeth Daily in a film that Mr Zombie is calling ‘down and dirty’. You know, unlike all of his other flicks...
If you want to contribute to the film, you can back it here.

4. FIRST PIC FOR HUMAN CENTIPEDE III RELEASED

Don’t worry, it’s safe for work!
Director Tom Six says of the American shot sequel to his controversial first two movies: ‘it will be the most controversial one politically-wise. It will have a lot of self-mockery and will be the most darkly comical of the three. Parts 1 and 2 have a very European feel. Part 3 is very American with the highest budget, a big movie score, widescreen, and an XXL human centipede. It’s set in an American maximum security prison in the middle of the desert. Plot-wise I won’t share details yet but if you let your imagination run wild you might get ideas.’

5. UK FREEVIEW GETS HORROR CHANNEL

As of last Friday (the 13th, no less) the Horror Channel joined the Freeview family! Now there’s no excuse to miss out on the classic flicks that this fantastic broadcasting company beam out on a nightly basis.

6. NEW THIS WEEK

Hey US readers, don't get too down about the Horror Channel news, this week you can sit down with Zombeavers and the eagerly anticipated Muck.

THE WEEK’S HORROR HEADLINES (26th January – 2nd February)

Not got time to trawl the web for all the top horror news of the last week? Well allow me to give you a bite-size breakdown of the all biggest nightmarish news!

1. JURASSIC WORLD SUPERBOWL SPOT

Miss the latest ad for the next Jurassic Park movie? Well here it is!
Looking good…

2. GHOSTBUSTERS GIRLS CLOSE TO CONFIRMED

Melissa McCarthy has reportedly signed on for Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters flick and Sony is now said to be negotiating with Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
I can’t say I’m too impressed at this news, but we have some highly-regarded comedy actresses here so I’m prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, even though nobody could ever take the place of Venkman, Stantz, Spengler and Zeddemore in my heart.
Read The Hollywood Reporter’s story here.

3. TURBO KID TRAILER SKIDS STRAIGHT INTO OUR HEARTS

Do I need to say anymore?
SERIOUSLY????

4. NEW RELEASE DATES FOR FRIDAY THE 13TH, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION AND RINGS

Shuffles on the release dates of three massive upcoming horror movies. The latest film in the Paranormal Activity franchise has been pushed back to the more traditional Halloween slot, with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension now set to hit screens on 23rd October. The Ring reboot, Rings is now scheduled for a 13th November release date. And finally, the latest Friday the 13th flick has been bumped all the way back to 13th May next year. Unlucky for some, indeed…

5. ANGELICA TRAILER BRINGS THE VICTORIAN SPOOKINESS BY THE TRUCKLOAD

A trailer for Victorian set horror film Angelica has hit the web. Based on a novel by Arthur Phillips, directed by Teeth’s Mitchell Lichtenstein and starring The Hunger Games’ Jena Malone, this looks a great, atmospheric chiller packed with tonnes of repressed sexuality and creepiness.
Check it out exclusively over at The Hollywood Reporter here.

6. NEW THIS WEEK

THE WEEK’S HORROR HEADLINES (19th-26th January)

Not got time to trawl the web for all the top horror news of the last week? Well allow me to give you a bite-size breakdown of the all biggest nightmarish news!

1. RING REBOOT 'RINGS' CASTS ITS FEMALE LEAD

Italian actress Matilda Lutz has been cast as the female lead in F. Javier Gutierrez’s horror movie that reboots the horror franchise for Paramount.
Based on the J-Horror smash, Ringu, this is a new take on the terrifying legend of the cursed videotape. Read the Wrap’s story here.

2. BUMPER CROP OF IMAGES FOR ELI ROTH’S CLOWN

Want to see more from the long awaited, Eli Roth produced Clown? How’s THIS for a gallery!

3. NEW TRAILER HITS FOR PIECES OF TALENT SEQUEL, A MISSING PIECE

I was a massive fan of Joe Stauffer’s Pieces of Talent, so I’m delighted to see the sequel moving ahead. Looking forward to it? You will be after checking out the trailer right here!

4. THE STRANGERS 2 FINALLY ON THE WAY!

After more false starts than I can count, it seems we may FINALLY be getting a sequel to 2008’s home invasion classic, The Strangers. As I’ve written before, this has been a long time coming, but now it seems to be pressing ahead with Marcel Langenegger attached to direct.
Read Bloody Disgusting’s story here.

5. EVANS LEAVES CROW REBOOT

Luke Evans, the impressive star of No One Lives and less impressive star of Dracula Untold has left Relativity’s reboot of the classic dark comicbook franchise.
I like Evans, so this is a bit sad, but let’s see who director Corin Hardy fills the role with before writing this one off. After all, it can’t rain all the time.
Read The Wrap’s story here.

6. NEW THIS WEEK

There’s a few flicks hitting the shelves this week. These include the highly regarded Honeymoon (available here), psychological chiller Phobia (available here), eerie horror mystery Neverlake (available here) and occult horror Where The Devil Hides (available here).
